History of the Mazda Mk3


The Mk3/NC was a complete redesign and was made longer, wider, and taller. They used a lightweight aluminium MRZ engine and also used it for the boot lid, bonnet and engine subframe.

The Mk3.5 was launched in 2009 with a bigger front grille and redesigned with almost oval shaped front fog lights. Available in:

  • Standard 1800cc & 2000cc
  • 2000cc Sport Tech came with limited slip diff and Bilstein sports suspension
  • 2000cc Power Shift

MX-5 Launch Edition 2000cc Sport Edition

Produced: 2005

This car was finished in Velocity Red only 300 units were allocated to the UK but this model was only the second model to be sold worldwide. The car’s main features were cosmetic such as:

  • 17" alloy wheels
  • 205/45 R17 Michelin tyres
  • Chrome door handles
  • Headlamp reflectors
  • Fog lamp rings
  • Windscreen
  • Surround and front bumper grille

The interior was finished in black and red heated leather seats with chrome effect finishing’s. Only 3500 were built and each car had its own personal number plaque with the make number.

Mazda MX-5 Z Sport 2000cc Sport

This car was finished in Radiant Ebony Mica and 17” BBS Alloy wheels with low profile tyres. Some features were the same as the launch edition such as; chrome door handles, headlamp reflectors, fog lamp rings, windscreen surround and front bumper grille. The interior was finished in Stone leather heated seats with chrome effect dash and centre console which was just some of the updates that Mazda gave this Mk3.5.

Mazda MX-5 Niseko 1800cc & 2000cc

This car was finished in Icy Blue and Sunlight Silver, the 1800cc models came with soft top only and the 2000cc models came with a retractable hardtop top. The exterior had 17” Alloy wheels with low profile tyres. Some features were the same as the launch edition such as; chrome door handles, headlamp reflectors, fog lamp rings, windscreen surround and front bumper grille.

The interior was finished with dark brown leather seats, matching trim and steering wheel. Standard specification also included:

Produced: 2011

This car featured black electric mirror, retractable hood, front grille, style bar covers and some matching features on the interior. Only 500 units were made and it was finished in 3 colours:

  • Spirited Green
  • Velocity Red
  • Crystal White
